Preparing to Buy a Home

by Connie Ryder 02/22/2022

It wasn't so long ago that technology in real estate consisted of a landline and a book of listings published every two weeks that was easily four to five inches thick.  The paper was newsprint quality, multiple listings squished onto the page, and the ink would get increasingly smudged as the weeks wore on.

Today, we can edit a listing within seconds, our clients can "shop" from their phones, and documents whiz to all invested parties with one click.  What hasn't changed, however, is the need to prepare to buy a home.

Back in the day, BPC (Before Personal Computers), we would meet with clients in an office to talk about the buying process and look at the listings, review/sign documents, and the steps to making a purchase were outlined and questions answered.  That still happens, but not necessarily in that order.

Because you, the Buyer, have so much access to information at your fingertips, you may have identified a home and been matched to a lender and realtor within minutes of firing up your computer.  You're making an appointment to meet the agent at the home of choice and, possibly, putting in an offer that day.  Your first inkling of what steps to take probably begin with that first conversation with your agent.  That's a lot of information to absorb in a conversation while your focus is on the home in front of you.

This video reviews how you can better prepare yourself for the home buying experience.
